Squeak 4.6 – Installation on 64bit FreeBSD 10.3 (amd64)

On 64bit

  • FreeBSD 10.3
  • FreeBSD 11.0

the binary squeak package works out of the box.

Type

pkg install squeak

to install the FreeBSD squeak package.

It will install the Squeak 4.6 virtual machine (the 32bit image version) and dependencies.

The dependencies include the X11 client libraries.

Type

pkg info -l squeak | less

to see what files the package contains.

Notice the location of the image, changes and sources files.

Type

cp /usr/local/lib/squeak/S* .

to copy the image, changes and sources files

Squeak4.6-15102.image
Squeak4.6-15102.changes
SqueakV46.sources

to your current working directory.

Type

squeak Squeak4.6-15102.image

to start squeak.

You can also use the Squeak 4.6 image, changes and sources files

Squeak4.6-15102.image
Squeak4.6-15102.changes
SqueakV46.sources

from Squeak-4.6-All-in-One.zip

 

Install xauth

pkg install xauth

to allow remote ssh login with X11 forwading.

Use ssh

ssh -vvv -X -l username 192.168.0.101

for debugging, then

ssh -X -l username 192.168.0.101

or

ssh -Y -l username 192.168.0.101

for remote ssh login with X11 forwarding.

X11 forwarding should work from xterm on

  • FreeBSD
  • Linux
  • Mac (with Quartz X11 server).
